Hoy la firma invitada  es nuestro habitual comentarista inglés Jim, que nos deja esta muy interesante reflexión sobre exigencia y malas actitudes en el actual del VCF. En inglés, of course. Y más abajo traducido al español. Come on!

What being a professional appears to mean to the experienced players in our squad is that you can put in terrible performance after terrible performance throughout the season but if you put more effort in against the big teams things will be forgotten.  Essentially, play well when you want and you will be in the team or at the least on the bench when fit.

If you are a young lad, played in various positions then no matter how hard you try against poor teams, no matter how many times you play well, you will be chucked aside if you play badly, subbed early, dropped from the squad.

I want a team that tries as hard against Levante as they do against Barcelona or Real Madrid.  And I want a manager that demands this or drops the experienced culprits from the squad as quickly as the 20, 21 and 22 year olds get blamed and thrown aside. That is all I ask for – once I see that from Valencia’s squad I will start to give more thought to the terrible referees, that ref was bad against Real Madrid but he was far better than our experienced players were against Villareal.

Sick to death of the transformation in performance from week to week. The manager has no effect. Nuno got a performance v Monaco, Voro v Barcelona, Neville v Real Madrid, Pako v Real Madrid. When they give a shit they play. For 80%+ of the games this season they haven’t given a shit.

It seems to have worked. Cancelo is the latest kid to be thrown under the bus for a dodgy display, following Danilo and Vezo (who got thrown despite no dodgy displays). Their chances run dry. Barragan, Parejo et al – they get another chance until they give a shit.

But there will be another set of stories this week linking Parejo with Villareal or Sevilla – despite him being played off the park by a 19 year old debutant v Villareal (and at least it is no longer Barcelona or Real Madrid who want the sodding heart beat of the team). Paco will be linked with Barcelona again despite barely kicking the ball in most games this season, and doing his best “I’m so unlucky they don’t make chances for me face” for the cameras and missing the fact that the goalkeeper has dropped a shot six yards from goal that someone interested in may have been able to get to. And on it will go.

I get the feeling no lessons will be learnt and the summer will see some talented players who have never and will never reach their full potential due to this type of attitude arrive or ones who think they’ve made it and develop this mindset pretty sharpish, and maybe one golden signing who will break himself trying to lift the dross as we struggle to a 1-1 draw at home to CD Leganes.

Parece ser que, para los jugadores experimentados de nuestra plantilla, ser profesional es hacer partido terrible tras partido terrible a lo largo de la temporada, sabiendo que si haces más esfuerzo ante los equipos grandes, todo lo anterior se olvida. Fundamentalmente juega bien cuando quieras y estarás en el once titular o al menos en el banquillo.

Si eres un chaval joven y encima juegas en varias posiciones no importa cuánto te esfuerces ante equipos más débiles ni cuántas veces jugaste bien, serás apartado si jugaste algún partido mal, sustituido tempranamente o no incluido en la convocatoria.

Me gustaría tener un equipo que lo intentara con la misma intensidad cuando juega contra el Levante que cuando lo hace contra el Barcelona o el Real Madrid. Y me gustaría un entrenador que exigiera esto o que dejara fuera a los sinvergüenzas con la misma prontitud con la que los jugadores de 20, 21 y 22 años son culpabilizados y echados a un lado. Eso es lo que pido. Y una vez viera eso empezaría a dar más importancia a las terribles actuaciones arbitrales, porque el árbitro del Bernabéu era malo pero bastante mejor que el partido que jugaron nuestros experimentados jugadores contra el Villarreal.

Estoy muy cansado de las transformaciones en las actuaciones de semana en semana. El entrenador no afecta. Nuno consiguió un gran partido contra el Mónaco, Voro contra el Barcelona, Neville contra el Real Madrid, Pako contra el Real Madrid. Cuando se esfuerzan juegan. Pero en más del 80% de partidos no se han esforzado una mierda.

Parece que ha funcionado. Cancelo es el último chaval que debería ser lanzado bajo el autobús por una actuación peligrosa, seguido por Danilo y Vezo (que ha sido apartado sin ni siquiera malas actuaciones). Sus oportunidades escasean. Barragán, Parejo et al. – reciben las oportunidades necesarias hasta hacer una buena actuación. Sin embargo, habrá rumores durante la semana que vinculen a Parejo con Sevilla o Villarreal – a pesar de haber sido superado contra el Villarreal por un debutante de 19 años (y al menos ya no son Barcelona o Real Madrid quienes muestran interés en el “contemplativo corazón” del equipo). Paco será relacionado otra vez con el Barcelona a pesar de no haber tocado ni un balón en la mayoría de partidos de esta temporada, y de haberlo hecho lo mejor posible ante las cámaras, “soy tan desafortunado que no crean ocasiones para poder batir al portero”, sin tener en cuenta que el portero ha lanzado un balón en largo al que alguien verdaderamente interesado podría haber llegado. Y así sucesivamente.

Tengo la sensación de que no aprenderán la lección y el verano que viene veremos algunos jugadores realmente talentosos que nunca han alcanzado ni alcanzarán su potencial debido a este tipo de actitud o a algunos que creen que ya han hecho todo y recurren a la ley del mínimo esfuerzo, y a lo mejor a alguna contratación de oro que lo dará todo para intentar levantar este deshecho mientras sufrimos para empatar en casa contra el Leganés por 1-1.
